Nikita Lalwani: Author's Interview

Hello guys! I hope you all are doing great and thanks for your visit.

Today’s post is also somehow related to books. On Monday, this week too I posted a book review on my blog and in the mean time I got an amazing opportunity to interview a new talent in the field of books. Nikita Lalwani is the author, who just came up with her book 2 Pag ke Baad. I can’t wait to receive the personally signed copy of the book and then I will also be sharing the review as well.

I think the introduction was little long and further I don’t want to waste even a second of yours. Let’s jump on straight to the interview. I asked few questions to this cutest author on earth and let’s see what were her responses.

When did the first thought come to your mind to be an author?
To be honest, it just happened to me! It wasn't a childhood aim, I didn’t have a plan. I just started writing, and then I wrote some more, and one eventually I realized that this is something that I would never want to give up.

What does actually writing a book mean to you?
My books are a reflection of my thoughts or life incidences. So, they are a replica of everything about, or around me.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
I wanted to do many things, and was super confused when it came to making career choices. But when it came to giving a serious thought, I had always wished to be a psychiatrist or a psychologist. I love to unleash the layers of the human mind!

Imagination is the key to write a book for every author. Where does that come from?
I feel that every creation is a derivation from an inspiration. We don’t create things, we drive ideas from whatever we see, listen to, feel, or have been through. Our wishes also make a big role in our imagination. So, for an instance, a half lived story in my real life might become a complete story in the way I had wished it to be.
2 peg ke baad, however, got its inspiration from true stories of random people whom I came across while writing for 2 peg ke baad blog.

From the lot of amazing books, you’ve written so far, which one is your favourite?
2 peg ke baad is not only my favorite but also very special to me. It summarizes everything I want to bring to my readers’ notice through 14 stories, and each one has its own tone. Also, the journey to build it into a book has been very interesting. I have traveled to places, met new people; put various kinds of inputs to make it what it is today. It was fun to have it even when it was not a book.

What are the key ingredients to become a successful author?
Be patient, and keep writing! Nothing, at least when it comes to writing happens over a night, or in a month, or even in a year.
Also, there are 2 types of authors – one who write well, one who has a good sale. The exceptions are who happen to be good at both. So, you need to choose which one you would want to be. And everyone has their readers. So, the only key to reach on top is to write and learn while you write. There’s no short cut.

My readers would love to know about your new book 2 Peg ke Baad. Would you like to share anything about this book?
2 peg ke baad is a compilation of 14 short stories which took place after people got drunk. Every story is different from the other. The book has a very urban soul and includes topics which have never been touched upon in the past – like transgender, she-males etc.

What do you think makes a good story?
What do you think made everyone like DDLJ or Dil chahta hai, for that matter?
Whether it’s about films or books, it clicks only when it connects well with the audience. Either your story should be real enough in itself that everyone finds connect with it or it should tell them something new, something strange, something that might be interesting to learn.

Let’s peep into your personal life. If you don’t mind, can you tell my readers little about yourself.
Okay, but I charge extra for that. I’m kidding!
I grew up in Jabalpur, a small town in Madhya Pradesh. I did dentistry from Indore and while I was doing my internship I got a job offer from a digital marketing company there. I started writing for them, and that’s when I got an introduction to the ad world. 2 years later, I applied in Mumbai, and now I am working as a copywriter in McCann.
Writing and advertising, both are equally important to me. If writing is my wife, which will always be there, no matter what I do, advertising is more of an affair that keeps me going in life.

How is your book, 2 Peg ke Baad, different from others? Why should readers pick this one?
The best thing about 2 peg ke baad is that they are short stories, and every story is different from the other. So, this way, there is at least one story for everyone. Why should readers pick it – you ask, well, the book might just give you a high!
For a real answer, you will never regret picking up this book from the shelf, no matter what your taste is. And I can bet on that!

Some lines for my readers and your fans.
The one thing that I have learnt in life is that if you truly believe in something and if you put honest efforts into making it happen, no one can take your dream away from you.
So don’t give up in believing in yourself. And believe in something – it could be a theory, an idea, an entity or whatever. And lead your life for and around it. It will help you set a standard for yourself.
And of course, let me have your honest feedback on 2 peg ke baad. Most Awaited!
