'DRONACHARYA At The Workplace And Other Short Stories' by Meghdoot Karnik: Book Review

KEY CHARACTERS IN THE MAHABHARATA: We all are very well known with the war between Kauravas and Pandavas. The war has always been called as Mahabharata. In the first story of this book all the key characters of Mahabharata has been showcased, which you can easily make out with the story title. The crisp introduction given by the author is easy to understand. In today's world, which is engraved with western culture; this book will take you back to our ancient times.

DRONACHARYA AT THE WORKPLACE: Twisha, who is a Senior Associate at Tomfina. She is an intelligent and hard working girl who joined her first company as an analyst but with continuous hard work and guidance of Sujoy (her ex-manager), she reached the position with good pay and respect. Karan is Twisha's younger brother who always helped her to identify the excat problems she is facing in her life and at work. After Sujoy offered her to join his company as Vice President, Twisha is now in dilemma what to do. The pay and respect is more but is she ready to take up these responsibilities? In this story, Karan makes his sister understand how to choose the right path with an example of Dronacharya and Arjuna relationship from Mahabharata. Did Karan played a positive role for his sister?

RECRUITING KARNA: It is always said that experience is a key to success. Aditi, who is a Vice President of her company PROWEN believes never to judge a person on his/her background. She had some amazing brains working in her team only because of this thought. Priya, on the other hand started her career as a recruiter just 2-3 months ago in the same company and belongs to an army background. She believes that a person should wear good clothes and footwear, no matter to which background that person belongs. She thinks a person should look presentable. But Yogesh, who is a college student in Rohtak changed the mindset of Priya. Aditi made her understand by narrating her an equality based story featuring Arjuna and Karna in Mahabharata.

ARJUNA'S MISTAKE: A mistake is committed accidentally and not intentionally. Same is been implied in this story. Arjuna entered Draupadi's chamber at the time when she was living with Yudhishthir by mistake and has to spend 12 years in the forest as a punishment. The story tells about Mandar, who works in a company and looks after the transport department. Due to the instructions given by Vice President Mahesh on cost cutting. Mandar had to make him understand about the reduce in ad hoc costs, which can't be reduced. Will he be able to convince Mahesh over the issues? It is an interesting treat to all the readers for sure.

BHISHMA'S SILENCE: Vishal and Ritu, who are husband and wife and are a successful married couple. Vishal is upset with a new project, which is not gaining anything. But what is the main reason behind the failure? Its the interest and a hint of scope, which Vishal was not able to figure out. Author pops in another Mahabharata story, wherein Draupadi is being disrobed and non of his husbands protested to protect their wife as they had lost everything including themselves and their wife. But the main thing is, even Bhishma didn't protested including the elders sitting in the court. But here Vishal decided not be another quiet Bhishma. He decided to protest by keeping his views before the concerned people of the company. But how?

KARNA'S REPUTATION: In Mahabharata, when Karna used to organize donation camps to help others, he never used to say NO. He even gave his Kavacha-Kundala to a brahmin (who was actually Indra, Arjuna's father). Indra was worried as it was only Karna who could kill his son and can't die till he have the Kavacha-Kundala with him. In this story, 2 main characters; Kunal and Rajesh are showcased. Rajesh is like a mentor to Kunal. The story teaches you that it is not mandatory to give away what you have, get used up by others and become a daan-veer. With your work at office, you have a family too and you need to pay attention towards them as well. Take up the projects, which are yours and meant to be paid attention to. Don't blindly soak in what the world is throwing at you.

ABHIMANYU: Sometimes humans are not able to identify if god is giving them any signal for their betterment. Ajay, who is successful in his career developed love for nature and wanted to explore it more by climbing to a Shiv temple in Tungnath, which is 12000 feet above constructed. Ajay is been accompanied by his childhood friend Atul, who later makes him understand that he is no less than Abhimanyu. A baba called Ajay as Abhimanyu and also said that he'll be entering the same phase as chakravyu very soon and he might break the same to come out. After that Ajay gets various signals to believe but he denies. At the end with the counselling done by Atul, Ajay starts believing. Will Ajay survive in the chakravyu god has planned for him? Will he come out of that chakravyu successfully?

YUDHISHTHIR'S DILEMMA: Megha is a CA at Jamero and is very much excited for her first big project. Pooja is the person to whom presentation is to be given by Megha on Monday morning. But she is in a dilemma. Deven told her to make numeric changes to make the project look profitable but Megha don't want to lie. Here comes a story from Mahabharata, which Megha's boyfriend Sameer narrated to her. Yudhishthir was known as a person who always says the truth. But he had lied once! When Yudhishthir and his brothers killed an elephant by the name Ashwatthama but Dronacharya thought that his soon is been killed by them. When Dronacharya confronted Yudhishthir, he said that Ashwatthama was been killed in the battle but in a small voice, under his breath, he said, "the elephant". So he never lied! Will Megha do the same as what Yudhishthir did?

KUNTI & KARNA: We say that the world has changed in a positive way, but I don't think in the same manner. Talk about ancient or modern times, backstabbing has always been in the nerves. In Mahabharata as well, Kunti went to convince Karna to join Pandavas as she identified her son through Kavacha-Kundala. But Kunti was playing a negative role being the mother of Karna. She wanted him to join Pandavas because she didn't wanted her sons to get defeated by Karna in the war. Same story is been applied in the life of Prashant here. It is then his would be wife Divya made him understand the situation. The 2 main person in Prashant's company Shardul and Simeran wanted him to join their respective teams and now he is in dilemma. But finally, in which team Prashant will step in?
